OOGWAY ASCENDS
KUNG FU PANDA
Composed by Hans Zimmer, this piece is really unique. The main melody is carried by a solo erhu, a Chinese bowed instrument, accompanied by a mellow harp. In this first part of the piece, the strings and the brass play the chord progression in Dm in the background. Then the intensity of this first half increases with a beautiful climax that leads us to the second part, where the strings and the horns all carry the melody and the erhu is silent; moreover, a piccolo flute accompanies the strings one octave above. When Oogway is wrapped by the cherry tree petals, the erhu is reintroduced, while the strings and the brass are back to play in the background.
This is a very significant scene: Master Oogway is passing the torch to Shifu. The music, while stating this significance, brings us into a whirlwind of emotions. Maestro Hans Zimmer strikes again.
